The NIKE DUNK LOW BSMNT is a special Nike release following a series of films entitled REAL PEOPLE DO REAL THINGS. This series of films shines the spotlight on nine members of The Basement: London’s premier homegrown creative community.

Founded in December 2013, THE BASEMENT is a collective that unites London’s young creatives through inclusive online and offline platforms. The members and followers come from a wide range of different backgrounds, organising meet-ups utilising social media and accessible local spaces. Their website, BasementApproved.com, acts as an archive of their projects and creative experiments, inspiring and influencing a whole generation of young people.

For their new Real People Do Real Things campaign, The Basement members are out to change things. In their own words, ‘In a world that is seemingly rigged against us, we have taken it upon ourselves to take care of ourselves. Information is spreading faster than ever. Young people are starting to realise their power, their strength, their potential. We are out to change things‘. The mission statement video preceeds a series of individual profiles of some of the key members within the collective, many of whom you will recognise from the web and various social media channels: Joe Kellaway, Slowthai, Vicky Grout, Daniel Pacitti, Sam Moir-Smith, Leo Mandella, Hannah Alkindi, George Greene and Khulud Mahmoud.

The Nike Dunk Low BSMNT, designed by Basement member Daniel Pacitti, combines nine materials, including canvas, corduroy denim and leather, reflecting the diversity of the The Basement’s participants and community members. Additional design details include a new BSMNT Swoosh logo on the tongue, foot bed and heel, as well as a reflective, embroidered mini swoosh on the lateral side of the toe – a first for the Nike Dunk. The Basement logo, a series of lines representing nine rungs of a ladder, is also reflective and embroidered on the lateral side of the heel.

All proceeds from the shoe will go toward the Youth Futures organization, which currently provides mentorship programming to London youth, in addition to space for meals and doing homework. The Basement plans to support the creation of a media production suite at Youth Futures providing resources for photography and video production, graphic and web design and social media management.

The NIKE DUNK LOW BSMNT releases on SATURDAY 29 JULY and will be available exclusively at The Basement x Nike pop-up in London. There will also be apparel for sale designed by Basement member Alexandra Hackett, founder of ALCH. The pop-up address will be announced on the morning of July 29 via Basement channels: keep checking back with us for the latest details and information on this special release.
