Nike Air Max 96 II XX - The Drop Date

Coming Soon: the Nike Air Max 96 II XX in Goldenrod

The divisive hybrid NIKE AIR MAX 96 II XX is making its return to the streets, with two classic colourways on the schedule this season.

When the second version of the Air Max 96 dropped (funnily enough, back in 1996), it had its work cut out to follow the legacy of the previous year’s Air Max 95. That said and to be fair, any shoe would have struggled to compete with that one. But whilst the Air Max 95 has gone down in history as one of the most important footwear designs of all-time, its successor was no turkey: the lateral and medial sides were distinctive and original, whilst the sole unit and subtle branding kept some details in line with its forerunner. For the 2016 retro (and the 20th anniversary of the original model), Nike made several tweaks throughout the shoe – the addition of the 95 Ultra sole unit being the key cause for uproar – but many of the key OG characteristics were still present. 2016 might have been a little too early to introduce such outlandish hybrid concepts: it will be interesting to see how today’s audience responds. So far, it looks set to return in two original colourways: Goldenrod and Mystic Teal.
