The NEW BALANCE CM1600 is a shoe that didn’t used to have much pedigree in the lifestyle footwear market; that high style number denotes a strongly technical running build, perhaps leading the silhouette to be considered too busy or bulky for a casual trainer.
Ronnie Fieg’s efforts on his ‘Daytona’ project did a lot to help restore the reputation of the shoe though, and since then it has worked its way back into NB’s lineup. The latest iteration comes courtesy of North Carolina’s Social Status, who have, rather confusingly, taken inspiration from the Hamptons, the haven of the privileged on Long Island, New York. As such, SS have used some high-grade materials including tumbled leather and pigskin suede (to mimic yacht interiors) as well as Cone Mills denim – a reference to the store’s beginnings as a premium denim brand.
The NEW BALANCE x SOCIAL STATUS CM1600 ‘WINTER IN THE HAMPTONS’ arrives this Saturday 10 JAN 2015, check back here for link-throughs come the time.
