The strongest rises in popularity award has to go to ONITSUKA TIGER and their younger brother, ASICS. A decade ago, you’d have struggled to find a pair in most of the usual shops. It’s the same today, but for different reasons: they sell out immediately. A reinvigoration of the brand and some seriously good colourways resulted in both Onitsuka and Asics becoming a hot topic for all ‘heads. A tip of the hat has to go Ronnie Fieg and the KITH crew for a continual onslaught of killer collaborative releases.
But over here in the UK, we’ve had plenty to be proud of as well. The much-loved Hanon Shop in Aberdeen blew minds with their original Asics Wildcats Gel Lyte III: as a nod of respect to their local running club, these turned heads with a blazing yellow and red scheme and some incredibly nice detailing, such as yellow 3M stripes and a perforated toebox.
It’s no surprise that their follow-up shoe is just as tasty. This time, they’ve chosen the ONITSUKA TIGER X COLORADO EIGHTY-FIVE for their blank canvas – a classic trail shoe from the 1980s that is remembered in a simple suede and nylon arrangement – and stripped it down and rebuilt it from the ground up. Luxury suede, punched perforated vamp and quarters and a deluxe satin collar lining form part of the construction, whilst the 3M stripes make a welcome reappearance on the sides.
It’s going to be a roadblock when these drop on SATURDAY NOVEMBER 2ND, with HANON as the UK exclusive – link-through below – followed by wider European release a week later on SATURDAY NOVEMBER 9TH. Top work, yet again, from the up-North crew!
