Although 13 may be an unlucky number for some, clearly that doesn’t include the CREPE CITY team. Before every event they’ve said that the next one would be even bigger and better than the last – we have to admit that we were beginning to think it wasn’t possible, as the last event was huge… but it turns out that we were wrong! When we arrived about an hour before opening time, the queue for CREPE CITY 13 was an excited mass of 1000s of people ready to hunt out those grails and bargains.
When midday came, the doors opened and the crowd started filing in, with floor plans in hand, making their way through the stalls that were piled high with a huge variation of styles and colourways on offer. Among the private sellers and consignment stores were some UK retailers, including MAIN SOURCE, WELLGOSH and SOLEHEAVEN, providing a great selection of recent releases as well as deadstock picked out from the depths of the stockrooms. There was definitely a little something for everyone, from those who like to search through the bargain bins to those who hunt out the rarest and most exclusive pairs, like one of 79 pairs of the Air Jordan x Undefeated 4 we spotted on one stall.
As the event has continued to grow, it’s not just the retailers who are showing their support for CREPE CITY. PUMA were there showing off some of their latest releases, as well as giving people a chance to get up close and personal with some of their upcoming collaborations with ALIFE and SOLEBOX.
DIADORA had all of their recent collaborations on display, including PATTA, HANON, 24KILATES and PACKER, alongside a selection of general releases and as an extra treat they also had an exclusive release of an N9000, featuring no-sew technology that was limited to just 50 pairs.
Debuting at the show was new footwear brand AKIO (which we previewed here), with their really clean-looking Orion trainer in a selection of great colourways. We have to say we were really impressed and reckon it’s definitely a brand to keep an eye on.
With so much going on and with so many people there was bound to be the odd accident resulting in dirty marks on your prized trainers, but there was no need to worry as the guys and girls from JASON MARKK were on hand with their cleaning service to make sure your trainers would be restored back to their former glory at their very eye-catching booth.
Everyone loves a good on-foot shot and it’s important to make sure that your sock game is on point when your photographing your latest pick up. This is where STANCE SOCKS had you covered, with their admirable range of patterns and colours available for purchase at their living room style stand that definitely stood out.
With trainers comes fashion and with this in mind we saw the introduction of the BASEMENT area, where you could find a mix of classic streetwear, independent labels and the various pieces from the collaborative project between the CREPE CITY team and the Facebook group that’s become a bit of a phenomenon. For those who like things a little more personalised, YRSTORE were there providing their custom t-shirt and sweatshirt printing service. We also spotted custom embroidered caps and accessories, including the team from ROPES LACES with their wide colour selection.
Another first for this event was the CREPE CITY BOUTIQUE – an area catering to the ladies. Stalls here included trainers in smaller sizes, accessories, manicures and hair stylists. It’s good to see that the team have understood that there was a need for trainer collectors of the fairer sex to have a better opportunity to quench their thirst for footwear too.
Talking of thirst, it can be pretty hard work walking around a trainer event, so it was good to see a great selection of refreshments available for all the weary shoppers and sellers. We definitely spent some time on those picnic benches!
As always, there was a real mix of people attending the event and it’s a good reminder of how diverse this culture really is. There were people from all sorts of backgrounds and of all ages… however it’s very likely one of the youngest was the cool little guy rocking these Huaraches…
We’re sure everyone, no matter what age, had a great day, we certainly did, so thanks has to go to the CREPE CITY team for putting on such a good event. We look forward to seeing what everyone picked up, so remember to tag your pics with #thedropdate.
