Converse and NEIGHBORHOOD: Subverting an Icon with Shinsuke Takizawa

2017-04-05T16:44:12

To coincide with the new Converse and NEIGHBORHOOD collaboration, GOODHOOD have just posted an insightful interview with label founder Shinsuke Takizawa about his approach to design.

Founded back in 1994, NEIGHBORHOOD carved out its place in streetwear with a unique aesthetic: where many brands were playing things safe, Takizawa mixed functional design and premium materials, with an appreciation of craftsmanship. Such a distinctive approach to design comes from a range of interests and influences:

“Some of my main inspirations for Neighborhood are old signage, old parts and old motorcycles, but this time with Converse, my inspiration and focus was a little bit more modern. I always listen to many, many types of music. From punk rock to heavy metal, even slash metal. That image is what I had in mind. And, even though I don’t do it myself, skateboarding too.”

Brands may collaborate with increasing frequency these days, but when NEIGHBORHOOD are invited to the table, you know that something special is coming. The CONVERSE x NEIGHBORHOOD CHUCK TAYLOR 70s HI and the CONVERSE x NEIGHBORHOOD ONE STAR OX are due to drop on THURSDAY 6 APRIL.
