American sportswear brand BROOKS have made their first foray into the lifestyle market with the help of Cambridge, Massachusetts’ CONCEPTS.
It’s certainly intriguing to see Brooks launching a retro line; even more so when you consider that direct competitor Etonic are doing just the same. Evidently the regular weekend queues outside boutique stores for new collab colour-ups of retro runners seems to have caught the eyes of these brands and drawn them into party, which can only be a good thing. Competition keeps standards high and judging by the look of this first offering from Brooks, they’re not here to mess around.
The Chariot is the model chosen to lead out Brooks’ new venture and while the inline versions are great, this wine-inspired colourway from Concepts is bananas (or should that be grapes?) The inspiration for the project was Brooks’ home state Washington, a major producer of Merlot wine grapes in the US. The colour palette references the process of distillation from the grape, shown by the deep navy and blue tones, to the final product—the burgundy toebox. The upper features some of the nicest suede we’ve seen for a good while, with the oh-so-luxurious perforations featuring across the toe, while the pure white sole unit lets the rest do the talking. Finishing touches include a leather liner, two sets of laces and custom branded insoles.
The BROOKS HERITAGE X CONCEPTS ‘MERLOT’ CHARIOT is set to reach these shores this weekend after selling out in the US. Click the banner below for all details and stockist info.
