BAIT are celebrating the opening of their new location in San Francisco with a collaboration with ASICS TIGER on the GEL LYTE V. Welcome to the ASICS TIGER X BAIT GEL LYTE V SPLASH CITY.
As the store is going to be located in the Bay Area, the team at BAIT took inspiration from the local NBA team – the Golden State Warriors. So why the SPLASH CITY name? Well, back in 2012, during a game between the Golden State Warriors and Charlotte Bobcats, Warriors.com writer Brian Witt sent out a tweet in regard to the performance of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson with the hashtag SPLASHBROTHERS – and the nickname stuck.
Set on a black background, the GEL LYTE V features the NBA team’s respective colours, with blue suede featuring on the toe and heel, whilst gold 3M accentuates the side stripes. What makes the shoe stand out from others is the unusual colour blocking; there’s a white panel thrown into the mix next to the midsole on either side, which is the first time that this panel hasn’t matched the toebox. We’ve seen a lot of different colours and styles applied to the midsole on the GLV, but as far as we can recall, this is the first time it’s been blocked in this way, with the blue detailing fading into the white towards the middle of the shoe… It’s a really nice touch and looks great.
The ASICS TIGER X BAIT GEL LYTE V SPLASH CITY will drop at a special pop-up event in San Fransisco on the 11th and 12th of April, with remaining pairs being released on Baitme.com. There is no word of a wider release yet, but keep checking back with us for all updates.
