Sometimes we look back at our favourite models from the past and wonder why they were ever taken out of circulation. 2013 has been a great year for mixing up innovation with classic styling – and few brands have done this as well as our friends at adidas have. This ADIDAS RUN THRU TIME 80s PACK is another worthy look into the brand’s archives, with a perfect mesh and suede combination topped off with reflective details and some interesting modern-day additions. There are three models in the set and it’s hard work picking a favourite.
The ZXZ ADV is an inspired take on the classic and much-loved ZX 500, which debuted as one of the brand’s premium distance running shoes when it released in the mid 1980s. This updated version brings in the talents of Kazuki Kuraishi to create a new model that is perfect for 2013. Kazuki’s impeccable attention to detail and the trademark sturdy construction on the ZX runners results in a future classic.
The ZX 5000 RESPONSE is based on 1994’s Response Trail model, but adds an updated upper and the well-respected ZX 5000 tooling to give us something totally new. The cushion and Torsion Bar keep up the functional aspects, while the styling means it looks good in a non-athletic situation. Which, to be fair, is where 99% of us are going to be wearing it.
The ADIZERO ADIOS 2 is the final member of the pack and brings things to a nice close with a subtle yet modern silhouette. It looks a little sleeker than the other two models but still looks rugged enough for daily wear. Designed by the legendary Mr. Omori, who is renowned as one of the best pattern cutters in the industry, the simple lateral side panels are offset with a contoured midsole and Continental rubber outsole.
