When it comes to truly classic trainers, the ADIDAS STAN SMITH is undoubtedly one of the first names that needs to be thrown in the ring. We’re fully stoked to see the return of the shoe this month with premium materials and a cleaner shape that rightly distances the model from its saddening recent reputation as a Sports Direct bargain bucket PE shoe.
To celebrate Stan’s return, adidas invited us down to the Truman Brewery with the promise of loud tunes, good eats and free-flowing drinks. We were astounded to turn up and find a giant shoebox taking pride of place in the middle of the square. It quickly became clear that adidas had stepped it up another level on this one! Inside we found walls of OG Stans, 3D printers churning out miniature Trefoil lace locks and the centrepiece: a ‘Stan Yourself’ station at which you could swap your face onto the world famous tongue logo. These attractions truly brought out the kid in everyone and kept us inside this triple-striped toystore for a good while.
Across in the bar the event continued in a more traditional vein, with a seemingly bottomless free bar, Stan memorabilia and food from Mother Clucker. There were good vibes throughout, plenty of heat on feet and a few famous faces to spot too (shouts to Idris Elba!)
Many thanks be to adidas for hosting us, they’ve most definitely set a strong pace for trainer events in 2014!
