The colour scheme is a reminder of the city’s colonial past (have the colours of the Union Jack ever looked as good as they do here?), but the pattern employed is a nod to those ubiquitous nylon carry bags that are to be found everywhere. These humble bags — and the nylon fabric they are made from — have become an iconic part of Hong Kong culture. Super-strong, lightweight and inexpensive, they’ve inadvertently become very much part of the city’s cultural landscape. Edison Chen and the design team at CLOT have opted for a nylon-fabric upper and decked out the shoes in this bold red, white and blue print pattern, subtly incorporating their signature logo into the design. Adding to the style, there are blue heel counters, red laces and eyelets, paired with transparent Three Stripes branding on the sides and clean gum soles.
