British heritage gets a Scandinavian update in the WOOD WOOD X BARBOUR AW17 Collection.
Hot on the heels of their recent collaborations with adidas and ASICS, Danish dons Wood Wood have got together with British heritage brand Barbour to unveil a collaborative Autumn/Winter collection in celebration of their 15th anniversary. A welcome follow-up to the two brands’ first collaboration back in 2012, this latest effort feels like a particularly well thought out product partnership. Areas of common ground between the two brands are exploited to create synergy and subtlety, while parts of design or functionality that can be borrowed or enhanced from one another are utilized to deliver points of detail and interest.
Mixing Barbour’s practicality and Wood Wood’s off-key, instinctive flair for design results in a collection that feels very much like a real meeting of minds. For example, the dual branded logo that features throughout the collection has had the ‘B’ tilted, a reference to the 55th parallel north, which is the circle of latitude where both brands HQ’s are located. Furthermore, both Barbour and Wood Wood draw considerable inspiration from the sea due to their respective South Shields and Copenhagen locations. This maritime aesthetic features boldly on two waterproof breathable jackets with the inclusion of nautical blue and orange buoy colour pops on linings and zips, while Barbour’s famous wax jacket is updated by removing the front placket to reveal the iconic ring pull zipper detail. Barbour’s commitment to durable, quality materials is brought to the fore through the use of corduroy lined hand-warmer pockets and pile-lining, while traditional utilitarian details such as stow away hoods and storm guards further enhance the functionality of the outerwear.
