The iconic Thrasher lettering has graced the OG skateboard magazine’s cover since it first launched in 1981. But in recent years, the familiar logo – especially in its full-on fiery incarnation – has been picked up by celebrities (hi Rihanna), hipsters and the general public alike. There’s been a lot of controversy here, with skaters accusing hipsters of being ignorant posers and hipsters accusing skaters of being outdated losers. And the issues of subcultural appropriation got even murkier once a multitude of other brands – from high-end to high street – took “inspiration” from the iconic logo for their own products.
