Famed for their fabric development the Italian masters have just released the STONE ISLAND ‘ICE KNIT’.
No stranger to heat reactive fabric technology Stone Islands Massimo Osti first began experimenting with the process in late 1988 and went on to release the fist ‘ICE CAMO’ jacket in AW/1989. The line was an instant success and went on to become one of the most sought after pieces of Vintage SI ever (until they popped up in TK Maxx in the mid 2000’s).
The concept became a regular feature that crept into collections consistently but always reserved for the most experimental items that commanded the highest price. Now, in 2017 STONE ISLAND have released a new application of the technology with the debut of the THE STONE ISLAND ‘ICE KNIT’. Using a double knit construction, the face fabric is made using a heat sensitive yarn with an inner comprised of pure wool. Combined, these two fabrics create a garment that performs extremely well at cold temperature whist being visually engaging due to the shifting nature of the outer colour.
Whilst not cheap, the THE STONE ISLAND ‘ICE KNIT’ with it’s unique fabrication undoubtedly joins the ranks of of the brands pinnacle pieces.
