The NIKE SPORTSWEAR BLACK ROSE TECH FLEECE COLLECTION brings the patch trend to your favourite futuristic fleece.
The Black Rose collection consists of a Tech Fleece Destroyer Jacket, Tech Fleece Crew and Tech Fleece Pant, all embellished with multiple blacked-out embroidered patches. Some of the patch designs are brand new graphics commissioned for this capsule, while some boast older graphics and logos from the Nike archives. The Black Rose itself represents strength in the face of adversity, tying in with the capsule’s theme of “Victoria Aut Mors” – which, for those of us who don’t speak Latin on the regular, means “Victory or Death”.
There’s a lot of other hidden messages and references here too, with each patch chosen to represent a different aspect of Swoosh history. The ‘Goddess of Victory’ patch symbolises the theme of the collection, and the Roman numerals MCMLXXII refer to the year 1972 when Nike was founded. The ‘Shoe Dog’ patch comes from Nike’s internal Shoe Dog Awards, while the ‘Hexagon with Nike Pinwheel’ graphic was designed by Nike’s very first employee. The ‘Nike Diamond’ was created as a baseball logo in 1989, three years after the ‘#1 Swoosh’ was developed for the 1986 re-release of the Air Force 1. Looking to the future, the final three patches were designed especially for this collection and comprise the ‘Nike Globe’, the ‘Black Rose with Pinwheel’ and the chenille ‘Textured Black Rose’ that ties together the whole range.
