Following on from last seasons debut collaboration between Blondie McCoy’s Thames label and heritage sportswear brand Fred Perry, the two re-connect for SS18 on a capsule inspired by old school uniforms and vintage sports silhouettes, with McCoy explaining that the range is designed to articulate “the hum-drum routines of British life and the uniforms that attire it”. Co-branded knitwear and classic polo-shirts feature heavily, drawing on a colour palette of ivory white, sky blue and burgundy reminiscent of archival Fred Perry tennis colour combinations and public school PE kits. This is a real celebration of the ‘Britishness’ of both brands, with Blondie McCoy keen to use the collaboration to explore themes of class distinction often denoted by the clothes we wear, saying ” I want to see people skating and getting dirty in clothes that have such upper class implications… It’s taking that clobber off the court and into the car park that interests me”.
