Quantum jumpsuits: STONE ISLAND PROTOTYPE RESEARCH SERIES 03 has been revealed

STONE ISLAND PROTOTYPE RESEARCH SERIES 03 brings ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ into 2018.

Stone Island is known for its commitment to fabric innovation, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the brand’s Prototype Research projects, where processes that are too complex for mass production are applied to a limited number of unique garments. Things got started in 2016 with Series 01, which explored laser-printing techniques on a liquid reflective base. Series 02 focused on garment-dyed Dyneema fabric, made from the strongest and most durable lightweight fibre in the world. Now the third instalment has been revealed at Milan’s Tortona Design Week, and it’s even more high-tech than before. Each garment is made from four polyamide-based canvas fabrics, with the finished pieces then put through a complex high-temperature dyeing process that colours, shrinks and compacts the material to create something very special indeed, even by Stoney standards.
