West Coast meets Far East for the SOCIETY AW17 COLLECTION, available now.
These days Cali Thornhill DeWitt might be best known for designing Kanye’s ‘Life of Pablo’ album cover and merchandise, but the Californian artist has also founded an art gallery, run a record label, published books and zines, collaborated with clothing brands such as A.Four – and even worked as a nanny for Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. His most recent project is the Society brand, created with Haruka from Tokyo’s Big Love Records and stocked in an enviable selection of top-tier stores worldwide.
Taking everyday inspiration and flipping it into something unfamiliar, the new range of tees, sweatshirts, long-sleeve tops and hoodies features a simple colour palette adorned with oversized graphic prints that reference the symbols found on Japanese street signs and shop posters. The front and back prints add a ’90s West Coast vibe, while simple typography also comes into play on the brand’s signature ‘Number’ crew and pocket tee.
