Gore-Tex tech decks: the Nike SB apparel range gets technical

The NIKE SB imprint made its name with footwear, but its latest technical apparel drop proves that it’s no slouch in the garms department either.

Fans of skateboarding and not getting wet are in for a treat with these new weather-resistant releases from the Mighty Swoosh’s skate arm (or should that be leg?). Before we even look at the clothing, let’s just point out that these new joints have the seal of approval of none other than Guy Mariano AKA one of skateboarding’s all-time finest (he was doing this before many of you were born, and he’s still doing this now). The pièce de resistance here is a seam-sealed Gore-Tex jacket that comes in a bold camo pattern, perfect for evading the enemy while skating in a jungle (or to match with the camo Dunks and Janoskis dropping tomorrow). Built for movement and designed to keep out the worst the weather can throw at you, the jacket features stretch gussets at the underarms, adjustable cuffs and hem and a full length waterproof zip with a storm flap for good measure. If you’re after something more subdued, a sleek blacked-out Gore-Tex coach jacket with waterproof pockets is also available. Giving the Gore-Tex options a run for their money in terms of technicality is the Nike SB Steele Storm-FIT Jacket, which channels a strong ACG vibe with its tonal ivory and black colourways, weatherproof construction, asymmetrical pockets, overlaid vents and reflective hits.

The rest of the range is just as strong, perfect as standalone items or for layering under the jackets while it’s still cold. The Everett Repel Hoodie features a fleece body with ripstop nylon overlays, a DWR (durable water-repellent) finish and a next-level three-in-one pocket configuration. The FTM 5-Pocket trousers are tricked out with hidden side zip vents, leg gussets and reflective details, and come in durable stretch-woven twill and denim for ease of movement. The Everett Crew DWR Sweatshirt boasts a water-repellent coating and a sweat-wicking liner, and even the t-shirts are made with the technical Dri-FIT fabric normally seen on Nike running gear.
