Today saw a new Russian revelation running wild across social media, and we’re not talking about Trump and his golden showers: in a much less worrying development, 2018 World Cup fever kicked off with the announcement of the forthcoming GOSHA RUBCHINSKIY X ADIDAS FOOTBALL COLLABORATION.
Moscow-born fashion upstart Gosha Rubchinskiy has frequently looked to his homeland’s football hooligans fans for inspiration (most recently in his AW16 collection), so the partnership with adidas Football makes perfect sense. The long-term collaboration between the Russian designer and the German sportswear giant was unveiled at Rubchinskiy’s AW17 show in Kaliningrad, a location chosen because it used to be part of Germany but is now Russian territory. Imagery of the collection are pretty thin on the ground, but it seems we can look forward to a wide range of products including outerwear, tracksuits, knitwear, jerseys, hats and (of course) scarves, all bearing the word ‘Football’ in Cyrillic script. Football boots make up the footwear side of things, and the entire range will be priced not too far above adidas Football’s usual offerings. Distribution, however, will be very limited, with the collection available only in select Gosha Rubchinskiy stockists: adidas won’t be distributing the range themselves, and no actual football stores will be involved.
The GOSHA RUBCHINSKIY X ADIDAS FOOTBALL COLLABORATION is set to unfold over three seasons, culminating in a big event for the 2018 World Cup in Russia (which itself is sponsored by adidas). Watch this space for more information, and take a look at some of the teaser images below. And while you wait, you can shop the latest products from ADIDAS FOOTBALL and even snap up some of the last few GOSHA RUBCHINSKIY AW16 offerings with END. by clicking on the banners…
