The CHRISTOPHER RAEBURN AW17 COLLECTION is a post-apocalyptic military rave masterpiece, and it’s available now.
The British designer made his name with an innovative approach to clothing that’s most clearly visible in his use of reclaimed military fabrics. A particular highlight is the ‘Remade’ outerwear project which uses material from de-commissioned parachutes to create intricate new garments that remain easily wearable despite their high-concept construction. For the Autumn/Winter 2017 collection, Raeburn’s military inspiration is back for a capsule range of reworked classics that use mixed materials to great effect – and the patchwork parachute pieces make a welcome return.
The new offering includes outerwear, hoodies, and track pants, each of which is cleverly crafted using a collage approach. The standout piece here is the Remade Parka Jacket which merges classic British outerwear aesthetics with body armour details like heavy-duty straps and clips. The Remade Camo Parka and Quilted Bomber Jacket put a new spin on traditional military silhouettes, combining overdyed camo waxed cotton with contrasting synthetic quilted fabric on the sleeves and body. The Remade Parachute Parka and matching Track Pant use Raeburn’s signature upcycled parachute material to rework classic sportswear styles. And moving further into the sports realm, the Panelled Cotton Hoodie and Sweatpants come in classic tracksuit grey but use a patchwork of pile fleece and waffle to reference army training apparel.
