East meets West for the AFEW RISE OF THE KOI COLLECTION

The AFEW RISE OF THE KOI COLLECTION is bringing manga to life this weekend…

Each year Japan Day is celebrated in Düsseldorf, Germany, and each year the premium trainer and apparel retailer Afew unleashes a special release to cement the ties between the two countries. 2017 is the 5th anniversary of the project, so the new release harks back to the original handmade Gel Lyte III “Koi” which sparked the whole thing off back in 2012. But instead of footwear, the new drop is a capsule range of clothing with a clean black-and-white colour palette embellished with graphic details and a striking ‘Koi camo’ pattern. The collection includes coach jackets, hoodies, tees and a neck gaiter, all coming in black or white with embroidery, woven labels, and prints galore. The highlights are the ultra-heavyweight white hoodie with its bold back print, and the black denim coach jacket which treads more subtle ground with tonal embroidery that allows the unusual fabric to take centre stage. To bring the collection to life, Afew enlisted the illustration skills of Dutch artist Kwills for a manga-style lookbook that sits perfectly alongside an all-action photoshoot.
