The latest ADIDAS SPEZIAL SS17 COLLECTION fuses British casuals and Jamaican Reggae Culture, and Part 1 has just landed…
Drawing on adidas’ extensive archives, Gary Aspden and his SPEZIAL collections explore the multitude of subcultures that have appropriated the Three Stripes over the years. For SS17, the collection looks to the parallels between British and Jamaican culture that span across football, music and style.
The clothing range is dominated by an understated mash-up of military and classic sportswear silhouettes rendered in surprising colourways with interesting details. Pieces such as the Haslingden Jacket have been reconfigured to blend the styles of both sound system culture and terrace wear, and sit alongside tracksuits and polos which have become symbolic silhouettes within both movements. The footwear complements the clothing perfectly, with instantly recognisable styles such as the Atlanta SPZL and Jogger SPZL featuring alongside the newly added Mephisto-esque Garwen SPZL, which takes design cues from the long lost Brisbane leisure shoe.
