You can’t please everybody, but the current adidas range can’t be leaving many people unhappy at the moment; the ZX flux keeps things progressive, the tennis archive is opening up, the Superstar’s getting some attention after a few years off, and they’re going deep with the EQT retros, the latest release being the ADIDAS EQUIPMENT RUNNING GUIDANCE 93 OG.
If you’d told us a few years back that Adidas would be delving this deep into the EQT crate we probably would have called BS but kept our fingers crossed – The EQT range was home to the most technically focussed early 90’s shoes, and whilst they’re revered classics to the likes of us shoe geeks, we got the feeling that they weren’t the type of shoe a wider market could appreciate, and that adidas was happy to keep ’em buried in the vault as a result.
We’re happy to be proved wrong on this one, as a change of heart at adi HQ and the massive recent boom in all things retro running/tech has not only see the EQT line get some air, but also see them come back with superb attention to detail and quality – like it should be.
The EQT Guidance in this form actually debuted in ’92, featuring the wrap-over tongue and functional side stripe lace-stays from the range-topping EQT Supports, while the simplified maximum-contact torsion sole unit, distinctive mesh section on the forefoot and collar panelling give them their own visual identity. Pretty expensive and sought after back in the early 90s (as with most of the EQT range) the Guidance has been given the respect it deserves, with brilliant shape and materials, and superb launch colourways – go with the Chalk/Red OG for a classic EQT look, or these Sun Yellow/Anthracite versions which instantly blew us away when we opened the box – killer bees!
Always a rare, expensive and sought-after shoe in the early 90’s, the EQT Guidance is back and it’s as bad-ass as ever – they run big so go at least half a size down, but otherwise they’re hard to fault.
Both colourways of the ADIDAS EQUIPMENT RUNNING GUIDANCE 93 OG are scheduled to launch on SATURDAY 23.8.14 with the confirmed list of UK & European stockists provided on the RELEASE PAGE, which you can find via the link-through below.
